Prominent developer of adult content, Playboy Enterprises Inc. is planning to add a cryptocurrency wallet for users on its network of adult websites. According to a press release issued by the company this morning, the wallet will accept multiple cryptocurrency tokens.
In the release, the Los Angeles, Calif.-based company called out the Vice Industry Token (VIT) for use within its ecosystem of websites. Reena Patel, chief commercial officer and head of operations for Playboy Enterprises Inc., said the use of cryptocurrencies would help the company provide “increased payment flexibility” to its customers.
“This innovation gives the millions of people who enjoy our content, as well as those in the future who participate in our casual gaming, AR and VR platforms, more choices with regard to payment and in the case of VIT, an opportunity to be rewarded for engaging with Playboy offerings,” stated Patel.
The attention on VIT is not surprising, since the cryptocurrency is undergoing an ICO currently. In its whitepaper, VIT states that it has partnered with “prominent adult content brands to make their content available on the VIT network”. The network’s ledger records engagement behavior and enables them to reward users for interacting with content through comments and votes.
The idea of rewarding users for interacting with content is not new or radical. Another token targeted at the porn industry did not have a happy ending earlier this year. The owner decamped with investor money after promising a cryptocurrency that promised to reward users for watching livestreaming porn.
