Justin Sun has postponed his planned lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffet this Wednesday due to health complications. The announcement for the cancellation was made in a tweet. The tweet stated that Sun had fallen ill with kidney stones. But a Chinese publication claims that Justin Sun may be busy dealing with authorities after they accused his Tron cryptocurrency network of raising funds illegally. The publication also accused the Tron network of allowing illegal gambling activity on his network. Sun has responded via his Weibo account, saying that the accusations were false and Chinese authorities were not detaining him.
Sun bid $4.5 million to win the annual lunch with Buffett organized by a San Francisco-based charity that serves the homeless. In the days after he won, Sun revealed plans to invite crypto entrepreneurs and thought leaders to the lunch. He had already extended invites to eToro founder Yoni Assia, Litecoin founder Charlie Lee, Binance Charity fund Helen Hai, and Jeremy Allaire, founder of crypto payment firm Circle. All of them accepted the invitations.
When it does occur, the lunch is expected to be a face-off of sorts between a crypto skeptic and the technology’s proponents. Buffett has famously referred to cryptocurrencies as “rat poison squared” in the past. While announcing his victory, Sun pointed out that Warren Buffet had missed the mark when it came to predicting the potential of tech behemoths like Alphabet, Amazon, and Google in the past. Sun has said that he believes the blockchain community heralds an era of great technological and financial innovation and one of the biggest impediments to adoption of blockchain technology is the lack of understanding about the industry. Sun believed that during the lunch, Buffet would change his stance on crypto and even expand his investment portfolio to include crypto assets.
